Abstract of the PhD project:
This Ph.D. project focuses on the development of micro and nanostructured polymeric products for biomedical applications. In particular, the research project starts with the production of polymeric scaffolds and micro-nanoparticles, moving towards more complex systems obtained by their integration. The research will also focus on the use of innovative production processes, in order to optimize the productivity and reproducibility of the polymeric devices. The purpose of the project is to obtain both biodegradable and biostable platforms able to provide a controlled and sustained drug release over time or a release in more steps. To achieve this, a wide study will be performed, from the definition of production protocols towards in vitro biological tests and in vivo implants, touching upon different knowledges, from chemistry to material science, biology and pharmaceutics. The expected outcome of the research project is the production of innovative bio-polymeric devices for biomedical applications capable to maximize the treatment efficacy, and to move towards a technological transfert.
