Title of the PhD Project: Green challenges in the digital optimization of industrial products and processes

Abstract: In recent years, global awareness of environmental challenges has grown significantly. Climate change, along with other pressing issues, is driving increasing societal demand for industrial enterprises to adopt more sustainable approaches to manufacturing and service delivery. In response to this demand, and to rising regulatory pressure, companies are called to develop new methods, tools, and technologies capable of reducing the environmental footprint of their operations. Within this context, digital technologies offer valuable opportunities to identify, monitor, and improve processes, while Lean Manufacturing principles provide a framework for enhancing efficiency, simultaneously lowering costs and mitigating environmental impacts.

My PhD project addresses these challenges by developing tools and methods to support enterprises in their transition toward more sustainable ways of operating. The research contributes in two main directions: first, by investigating how digital technologies can be effectively integrated with Lean principles to mitigate the environmental burden of industrial processes and products; and second, by advancing innovative Lean-based approaches tailored to emerging manufacturing contexts
