Title of the PhD Project:

Digital Instruments for Additive Manufacturing process modelling: development and experimental validation

Supervisor(s)

Bernardo Disma Monelli, Marco Beghini

Abstract of the PhD project:

The integration of Digital Instruments in Additive Manufacturing (AM) process modelling represents a significant advancement in the field, offering a robust framework for development and experimental validation. Some challenges extend to design as well, where conventional design methods can be restrictive. Traditional approaches may hinder innovation, as they often rely on established norms that may not accommodate new ideas or technologies. Machine learning (ML) plays a pivotal role in enhancing these simulations, transforming complex and time-consuming processes into efficient, predictive models. This synergy not only streamlines the design and production phases but also ensures higher accuracy and reliability in the final products. The impact of ML on AM simulations is profound, enabling real-time adjustments and optimization that align with the dynamic requirements of modern manufacturing paradigms. The ML-achieved findings need to be corroborated by an experimental campaign and contrasted with established yet straightforward modelling approaches to further substantiate their credibility.
